Medellín has two main buses stations. Here you can travel around the country in a very safe way by different companies that offer their transport services.

To access to the principal buses stations the easiest way is to consult their website:

In the upper left are the phones of both stations.

South Terminal: +57 4 444 80 20 – Ext. 171

North Terminal: +57 4 444 80 20 – Ext. 150

Among of the best known companies to travel around the country are:

  • Western Fleet
  • Company Arauca
  • Bolivarian Express

However, it is advisable to first check the website of the stations and have a general overview to travel through the country.

Local Transportation

Taxi: One of the larges taxi companies in the city is “Tax Individual S.A”. To order a taxi from a phone you just have to dial the number +57 4 4440888.

Also, there are applications for taxi cooperatives such as EASY TAXI and TAPPSY, which you can download in your cell phone and use them when you need it.

Note: Taxi fares may vary according to traffic. Please note that most taxis only accept cash payments, therefore, you must change some money in advance, or do so at the currency exchange points (there are exchange points at the airport).

Buses within Medellín:  To know the number or name of the bus to use to travel in the city of Medellín, go to the Medellín bus maps site. There you will find all the routes with the help of an integrated map (This information comes from the Ministry of Transportation and Transit of Medellín).

It is also available as an application to download on IOS mobile devices.

Metro:  Its the most complete and massive transportation system to move around the city. To use it, download the app named “Movilixa Medellin8, available for IOS and Android devices.

With this application you can get information about the Metro rates, options to plan a trip around the city using this system, the different stations, a complete map of the system, news about the Metro and mobility in the city, charging points for the civic*  and a variety of options for tourist sites in the city. This last option will be of great help because it will offer different sites to know and how to get to these using the Metro of the city.

* The civic, is a card where people store a quantity of money which they then use to pay for trips in the Metro, the cables, the feeder buses of the Metro and the tram. For more information, click here.
